 The battlefield.

Union troops in the left of center shift left, then prepare to move forward.

 The Union left wing.

The Union center with all its artillery on the move.

A thin grey line of Confederates stands opposite the enemy.

The first clashes in the center of the line. The Union strikes.

The Confederate right is pushed hard, and Union forces begin movements to cut off the center.

A strong line of Rebels on their left flank confronts the Federals in the woods.

Union reinforcements cross a small river and join the left flank.

The Federals set up a roadblock to counter a Confederate force moving to attack the Federal left flank.

Gods and generals. Speaking of gods and the like, Fortuna was not on the side of the Rebels.

"Mexican standoff" on the Union left flank.

The sudden arrival of strong Rebel units on the Union right forces the Federals to fall back and create a backstop line.

Union troops on the left flank burst into open ground and bravely engage scattered Rebel artillery.

Crack Confederate forces on their left flank deploy and push forward.

The Rebels are literally stopped in their tracks by plucky and lucky Union infantry.

Light fighting continues on the Union left flank in the woods.

Confederate batteries on their right flank bravely stand their ground in the open as the Union deploys its more-numerous artillery.

A good omen: an order of figures arrive during the battle. A happy man!
