The Battle of Magnesia - 180 BC

A 15mm Ancients wargame fought on Saturday, July 21, 2007

Following an unsuccessful bid to drive the Romans out of Greece, the Seleucids under Antiochus III (the Great) of Syria were brought to bay in Asia Minor by a pursuing Roman force commanded by Publius Cornelius Scipio. Antiochus emerged from his camp at Magnesia to meet the taunts of Scipio's men.

In the historical battle, the Romans destroyed the Seleucid left and center while the cavalry of the Seleucid right pursued the shattered Roman left. Our game turned out quite a bit differently. Have a look at the photos to follow the action.

This battle was fought at Game Central by the Gourmet Wargaming Club (GWC). Snacks and a delicious dessert are pictured, of course. We used a modified version of the excellent Fire & Fury rules, tentatively called Swords & Fury.
