The 2nd Battle of Sfax
November 14, 2004, at Game Central
|
The propaganda war continues.
Dateline Sfax: Krauts sent swimming, including many air planes. Italians smarter, get hands out of Pockets and raise them in surrender. Sfax still allied controlled, mostly thanks to the French sub commander... -Ike
Official response from the Minister of Communications in Berlin: In another example of cooperation with its staunch ally Italy, our forces completed a reconnaissance in force of Sfax and its environs. Much to our surprise, the allies had concentrated a vast array of their forces to its defense. We redeployed our forces in preparation for our subsequent offensive. -Klaus Von Brititz

The battlefield. |
The battle starts with aerial combats. German fighters are driven off by superior numbers. |
A nasty surprise for the Axis: a full-strength US Ranger battalion in trenches. |
Panzergrenadiers move cautiously forward. |
|
A US recon unit opens fire from cover. |
German AA assets manuver to attack the Rangers, attract artillery. |
Suddenly from behind the Allied lines a lone German recon unit enters. US armored infantry redeploy and end the threat. |
Axis bombers come in unescorted, become meat for US fighters. |
|
However, more German bombers follow, and the Rangers come under intense bombardment. |
Stukas blast the Rangers with accurate dive bombing. |
A US headquarters support unit falls back to the safety of the wadi. |
Throughout the battle this Priest SP-howitzer kept pounding the Axis. |
|
The last main action of the battle saw the hidden German 88 come into action, wiping out a light tank and causing consternation. |
More US units enter the field, press forward, bypass a new Italian unit, and force an Axis withdrawal. |
A vengeful God. |
